Chelsea Football Club is intensifying its pursuit of a top-tier striker to bolster their attacking lineup for the upcoming season.

Chelsea plot second chance for striker they didn’t want in January

After opting not to secure a forward during the winter transfer window, the Blues faced a significant setback when both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu sustained injuries during a 2-1 victory over West Ham.

Jackson, a pivotal player under manager Enzo Maresca, is sidelined until April, leaving the team in urgent need of offensive reinforcements.

In response to this pressing need, Chelsea is revisiting the prospect of signing Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

The 26-year-old has been in exceptional form, netting 66 goals in 67 appearances since his transfer from Coventry City in the summer of 2023.

Also, Gyokeres delivered a standout performance with a hat-trick in Sporting’s 4-1 triumph over Manchester City.

Despite a release clause set at €100 million (£83 million), reports suggest that a gentleman’s agreement could allow Gyokeres to depart for a fee in the region of £63 million.

Chelsea faces stiff competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal, both keen on acquiring the prolific striker.

Manchester United, under the impending management of Ruben Amorim—Gyokeres’ current coach at Sporting—has expressed interest, potentially leveraging their existing relationship.

However, Gyokeres’ desire for Champions League football might influence his decision, potentially favoring clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal over United, who are currently positioned 13th in the Premier League standings.

In parallel, Chelsea is exploring alternative options to strengthen their forward line. One such prospect is 19-year-old Danish striker Conrad Harder, Gyokeres’ teammate at Sporting.

Valued at approximately £15 million, Harder is seen as a potential long-term investment to provide depth and competition within the squad.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Chelsea’s strategic moves in the market will be pivotal in addressing their offensive challenges and enhancing their competitiveness in domestic and European competitions.
