Chelsea have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, with new manager Xabi Alonso giving the green light for a January move.

Sources close to the club confirm that Alonso wants to bring the French international to Stamford Bridge as he seeks further cover at right-back.
The Blues have held a long-standing interest in Kounde, having narrowly missed out on signing him in 2022 when he opted for a switch to Barcelona instead.
Now, the 27-year-old is reportedly keen on a move to West London, and a January transfer is looking increasingly possible.
Kounde’s situation at Barcelona has shifted dramatically under Hansi Flick. The defender has slipped down the pecking order, starting just one La Liga game this season, with Flick preferring Eric Garcia and Joao Cancelo.
Barcelona have also hinted to Kounde’s representatives that they would consider selling him, potentially as early as January.
