Chelsea have firmly turned down an initial loan offer from AS Roma for winger Jamie Gittens, according to talkSPORT.

The Serie A side, managed by Gian Piero Gasperini, made their move for the 22-year-old after missing out on Alejandro Garnacho, who departed Stamford Bridge for Aston Villa.

However, the west London club swiftly rebuffed the proposal and have made it clear they have no intention of sanctioning Gittens’ departure this window.
New head coach Xabi Alonso, who takes charge of his first Premier League game on Monday night against local rivals Fulham, has been impressed by the England youth international during pre-season.
That endorsement appears to have been decisive in Chelsea’s decision to retain the winger.
Gittens endured a difficult debut campaign following his £52 million move from Borussia Dortmund last summer, managing just one goal and five assists in 27 appearances across all competitions before a hamstring injury sidelined him for the second half of the season.
Despite that underwhelming return, Alonso views the young attacker as valuable cover in the wide areas. Chelsea’s stance is strengthened by their recent squad movements.
With Garnacho already sold and Pedro Neto’s future uncertain amid interest from Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Al-Hilal though no club has yet met Chelsea’s £100 million valuation the club cannot afford to weaken their attacking options further.
Alonso already has new signing Geovany Quenda and Mykhailo Mudryk at his disposal, and the club recently rejected a loan offer from Leeds for the Ukrainian winger as well.
Roma are desperate to strengthen in that position and are expected to return with another offer in the coming days.
But for now, Chelsea’s message is clear: Gittens is staying put under Alonso’s new regime.
