As the La Liga powerhouses began negotiations with Chelsea for the £50 million-rated player, Conor Gallagher might be willing to join Atletico Madrid. With just one year remaining on his deal, the England Euro 2024 star has been the focus of a lot of transfer rumours over the previous two seasons.
The midfielder was Chelsea’s de facto captain during Reece James and Ben Chilwell’s extended absences last season, when Mauricio Pochettino turned him into a vital player. According to The Times, Atletico Madrid has shown interest in the player and initiated transfer negotiations with the Blues, so it’s possible that he’s already played his final game at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher has reportedly given Atletico “positive indications,” implying he may be amenable to moving to Spain after Three Lions teammate and former Real Madrid star Kieran Trippier had previously urged him to do so.
Blues set to lower £50m transfer demand for Gallagher
The squad captain for most of the previous season, an academy graduate, was originally valued by Chelsea at £50 million, but they might take a lower offer to complete a transaction. Even though Madrid is unlikely to have the money to match the £50 million estimate for Spain international Mikel Merino, they are still hoping that a deal can be made.
When questioned about Gallagher’s future, Maresca, the team’s new manager, replied, “Conor will be back with us when we are at Cobham.” In order to begin working with Cole Palmer and Marc Cucurella, he is either already at Cobham or will be there in the next few days.
“Then he will train with us.” Regretfully, anything can happen while the transfer window is open. not just for Conor but for every player as well.”
