It has not been the best summer for Chelsea fans with their club undergoing a transfer ban and failing to win their first three games of the season.
However, watching Frank Lampard take apart this Blues side and rebuild it with an emphasis on youth has been wildly interesting. Adding Matteo Kovacic was somewhat calming but the biggest positive was the hopeful news of Callum Hudson-Odoi signing a new contract.
It emerged in July that Bayern Munich had given up on their chase for the Chelsea winger and the South Londoners were close to tying him to a new deal. Hudson-Odoi reportedly had even agreed to a deal and was only demanding for the number ten jersey.
For some reason, no official news came out of the club ranks and now, the Sun believes that Chelsea are back at the negotiation table with the 18-year-old. The report states that Lampard’s side is prepared to offer him £200,000-per-week, which will be four times as big as his last contract.
Hudson-Odoi’s current deal is set to expire after this season. The winger has shown positive signs of returning early from his Achilles injury. Lampard has clearly stated how much he wants the Englishman at his club.
But the delay and the uncertainty is definitely a downer for all the club supporters. Could this turn out to be another Aaron Ramsey story next summer?
