Chelsea are closely monitoring the situation of Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri and are prepared to make a move if the teenager fails to agree a new deal with the Gunners, according to the latest reports.
Ethan Nwaneri on Chelsea’s Radar with Arsenal Contract Talks Stalling
Despite their ongoing Club World Cup campaign—where the Blues edged Palmeiras 2-1 to book a semi-final clash with Fluminense Chelsea’s recruitment team remains active off the pitch.
Following the recent signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton, the club is now eyeing Arsenal’s highly-rated youngster as part of their long-term squad building.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea are keen on Nwaneri, who has just one year left on his current contract at the Emirates.
Talks over an extension have stalled, and the 18-year-old is said to be seeking guarantees over his playing time—something Mikel Arteta may struggle to offer in a squad already brimming with established names.
Nwaneri enjoyed a breakthrough Premier League season in 2024/25, recording four goals and two assists in just 895 minutes of league action.
The versatile midfielder comfortable both as a right winger and in a more central attacking role proved he could step up, even filling in for Bukayo Saka when called upon.
However, with Saka and Martin Odegaard locked in as first-team regulars, a clear path to regular minutes remains uncertain. That’s where Chelsea see an opening.
The Blues are rebuilding under their new sporting structure and have shown they’re unafraid to invest in young, high-potential talent.
Still, it’s unclear how much game time Nwaneri would see at Stamford Bridge either, with Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, and Brazilian prodigy Estevao all competing for spots in the attacking third.
While Chelsea could offer Nwaneri a fresh start and a long-term development plan, both clubs must act fast—before another top side swoops in.
For now, all eyes are on Arsenal to see whether they can convince one of their brightest prospects to stay put.
