Chelsea have intensified negotiations with Dusan Vlahovic’s representatives as the Blues push to secure the striker on a free transfer this summer.

Xabi Alonso targets Dusan Vlahovic as his first big Chelsea signing

The 26-year-old Serbian forward rejected a contract extension at Juventus, making him one of the most sought-after free agents in world football.

Chelsea have tracked Vlahovic for years and now see a golden opportunity to land their long-term target.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea are in direct contact with Vlahovic’s father, Milos, who has been listening to offers on his son’s behalf.

The Blues face stiff competition from Newcastle United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, all of whom have held talks with the player’s camp.

Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti has asked for “one last chance” to extend Vlahovic’s deal, and the club will hold a final meeting to try to change his mind.

However, with Juventus director Giorgio Chiellini already announcing Vlahovic’s departure, a dramatic U-turn appears highly unlikely.

The Italian giants are now planning to replace him with Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani.

Securing Vlahovic would mark the first major signing of the Xabi Alonso era at Stamford Bridge. The striker has scored 136 senior goals and offers the clinical edge Chelsea desperately need.

But Vlahovic’s arrival could force out Blues forward Liam Delap. The 23-year-old joined Chelsea last summer after a superb spell at Ipswich Town but has struggled to make an impact.

Chelsea are open to selling Delap for the right price, with Newcastle and Everton keeping close tabs on his situation.

With Vlahovic available for nothing and Chelsea actively searching for a proven No.9, the stars appear to be aligning for the Blues to win the race.

A busy summer lies ahead, but landing the Serbian on a free transfer would give Chelsea an excellent start under Alonso.
