Chelsea are preparing a new bid for their long-term summer transfer target Wesley Fofana
Chelsea is considering a new approach for Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana, who has been a long-term target for the Blues.
Given that the French centre-back is in the Leicester squad for this weekend’s game against the Blues at Stamford Bridge, this fresh bid may be about £75 million.
Chelsea has been discussing the fresh proposal internally since Tuesday, after the Foxes rejected another approach for the player for roughly £70 million.
It’s an odd situation of a team trying everything in their power to sign a player. However, the selling club, in this case Leicester, is certain that they will not release the player even if he is unsatisfied with the transfer.
Although this drama has been ongoing for some weeks, the quality of Fofana and the fact that it is so late in the transfer window might be major factors. Leicester may be aware that they will be unable to find a replacement and are so playing hardball with Chelsea.
If the deal falls through by any stretch of the imagination, it might be devastating news for the Frenchman, who hoped to transfer to a large club and play games in order to be considered for the World Cup team.
From Chelsea’s perspective, unless they are absolutely positive that this transaction will go through, even if it takes till deadline day, the process of looking at alternatives and putting offers for them should begin immediately.
They don’t want to be in a position where Fofana misses the deadline and the club has no backup plan in place if this issue develops.
