The Blues are looking to tighten up their defense for next season
After a poor campaign this season, Chelsea will be looking to bolster their squad in several key positions this summer in order to challenge for the title next season. Their priority is adding defensive reinforcements .
According to Calciomercato, Chelsea are set to reignite their interest in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly. He has been linked with the Blues for a long time and they even wanted sign him last summer but a deal never went through.
Koulibaly is considered among one of the best defenders in the world. Since Maurizio Sarri took charge of the Partenopei, the Senegalese performances have improved almost beyond recognition, especially from a technical point of view.
The 26 year old year has made 161 appearances for the club and has scored 8 goals, including the one he recently scored against leaders Juventus last weekend which blown the title race wide open. Now the points difference between them are 1 point.
Key figures within Chelsea are convinced of his qualities and are ready to make a move for him. They are preparing a bid of £65 million for him this summer.
Though the defender has no release clause in the new contract and Napoli can set their own asking when the interested clubs make a move for him.
Koulibaly joined the Serie A giants from Belgian side KRC Genk in the summer of 2014 for just £7 million.
