Chelsea are prepared to wait until this summer to confirm Cesar Azpilicueta’s future decision

Azpilicueta’s current contract at Stamford Bridge ends at the conclusion of the 2021/22 season, and no formal efforts have been taken to extend the Spanish international’s contract at this time.

The 32-year-old remains a key member of Chelsea’s team as club captain and a flexible defensive option, and the club wants to keep him.

Barcelona is said to be prepared to match Chelsea’s current offer, with Azpilicueta eager to return to Spain having previously played for Osasuna.

According to trade specialist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are ready to give Azpilicueta as much time as he needs, with the Basque defender’s future move a personal choice.

La Blaugrana are hopeful that their offer of a two-year contract, as compared to Chelsea’s 12-month term, with the option to extend until 2024, will give them an advantage in discussions.

Chelsea and Barcelona are still awaiting Cesar Azpilicueta’s ultimate decision on his future.

Chelsea are hoping Azpilicueta stays at Stamford Bridge, as the Blues face losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen due to contract expirations.

“As I always said, I feel I have the trust and confidence of the club and now I am focused on every game. They are very tough games and I am enjoying the moment.” Said Azpilicueta.
