Chelsea are ready to submit a formal £60 million offer for Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs next summer, according to journalist Sebastien Vidal.

Robin Roefs to Chelsea? Blues Prepare Summer Transfer Offer

The Blues want to accelerate their pursuit of the Dutch shot-stopper in the coming weeks.

Roefs, 23, has enjoyed an outstanding debut Premier League season. He arrived from NEC Nijmegen following Sunderland’s promotion and quickly established himself as a key figure.

The 6ft 3in keeper has kept eight clean sheets, helping the Black Cats push towards a top-half finish.

His numbers rank among the league’s best. Roefs sits fourth for total saves and third for save percentage at 72.2 percent.

FotMob data shows he averages a 71.4 percent save rate with 3.04 saves per game. Only Gianluigi Donnarumma and Emiliano Martínez boast higher save percentages in the division.

Chelsea have struggled to find a consistent long-term goalkeeper since breaking the world record for Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018.

Edouard Mendy arrived two years later but departed in 2023. The club have since signed Robert Sanchez, Dorde Petrovic, Filip Jorgensen, Gabriel Slonina and Mike Penders.

Most of those options have failed to inspire full confidence. Penders, currently on loan at Strasbourg, stands out as the exception. Chelsea increasingly view the young Belgian as their future number one.

Roefs would provide an ideal solution for manager Liam Rosenior. He offers a reliable, high-quality first-choice presence immediately.

His arrival would also allow the club to gradually transition Penders into the role over the coming years.

Vidal reports that Chelsea want to steal a march on rival clubs by moving decisively for the Dutchman.

The world champions are now considering a formal approach as they look to solve their longstanding goalkeeping issues once and for all.
