Former Arsenal player Aaron Ramsdale has been asked to join Chelsea in order to address their “massive problem” at goalie. The Blues have a number of goalkeepers on their roster, but they are no closer to acquiring a long-term No. 1.
Enzo Maresca started Robert Sanchez as his first-choice goalkeeper, but he was benched after he committed more errors that resulted in goals than any other Premier League goalie. After Sanchez was fired, Filip Jorgensen was given a chance, but he has also struggled and shocked everyone by making a terrible mistake in Saturday’s loss to Aston Villa.
Maresca is now faced with the difficult decision of who to start for Chelsea against Southampton and Copenhagen, two teams in the Europa Conference League. Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy maintains that his old team’s goalkeeping issue is a “massive problem” and that Ramsdale would be a “better” choice than the ones now available.
Chelsea interested in signing goalkeeper Ramsdale
“Chelsea’s goalkeeper has proven to be a huge problem,” Cundy stated on talkSPORT. “Against Aston Villa, Jorgensen dropped a dolly.” Chelsea was devastated when the keeper made a howler after we had done enough to earn a point.
Ramsdale is someone I would absolutely have. It’s a step in the right direction. Liverpool’s Kelleher is another person they are considering. The issue with the goalkeeper has obviously been somewhat disastrous. After Sanchez received the gloves, it became clear that he was in pain for the following three months. A lot of goals and errors have been made.
I believe they will try to find a replacement for Sanchez unless they believe that [Djordje] Petrovic, who is now on loan, is satisfactory. Clearly, though, that has been a problem the entire season, so something needs to happen.
Despite acknowledging that Jorgensen was “sad and upset” following his error against Aston Villa, Maresca said he will remain in the squad for Tuesday’s match against Southampton. “We have 12 games left, and we absolutely need to win all 12 of them.”
