Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has downplayed the significance of the club’s owners visiting the team dressing room following a 3-1 home defeat to Brighton on Saturday, insisting it is a regular post-match occurrence.

Maresca Addresses Dressing Room Meeting After Chelsea’s Defeat

After the final whistle, co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali, accompanied by sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, plus recruitment staff Joe Shields and Sam Jewell, marched straight into the changing room area at Stamford Bridge.

The visit came as Brighton players celebrated their victory on the pitch. When asked about the hierarchy’s post-match actions, Maresca clarified the situation.

“They have been inside the changing room, like always,” the Italian said.

“We have an office inside the changing room where after every game, we sit and we talk about the game.

But they did not say anything to the players. It was nothing completely different compared to the rest of the games”.

The match itself followed a frustrating pattern for Chelsea. The Blues took an early lead through Enzo Fernandez and controlled the first half.

However, the game turned in the 53rd minute when defender Trevoh Chalobah received a straight red card for a foul on Brighton’s Diego Gomez.

Capitalizing on the man advantage, Brighton scored three unanswered goals.

Danny Welbeck equalized before Maxim De Cuyper headed in a 92nd-minute winner. Welbeck then sealed the victory with his second goal deep into stoppage time.

Maresca pinpointed the red card as the moment the plan “completely changed”.

He revealed his message to the team was that they must stop giving away “presents” in the form of costly mistakes and red cards to opponents.

This defeat marks Chelsea’s second consecutive Premier League loss, leaving them with eight points from their first six matches.

The team now faces a crucial UEFA Champions League fixture against Benfica, followed by a Premier League match with Liverpool next weekend.
