Chelsea are preparing to launch a determined bid for AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone when the January transfer window opens.
Chelsea Set Sights on January Swoop for Roma Midfielder Manu Kone
The Blues have identified the Frenchman as a key target and are eager to finalize a deal this winter.
The West London club previously contacted Roma about Kone during the summer, only to pursue Lamine Camara from AS Monaco as a potential replacement for Enzo Fernandez.
However, that move collapsed on deadline day, leaving manager Xabi Alonso short of options in central midfield.
Kone has impressed in Serie A this season, averaging 60.6 accurate passes per 90 minutes and creating six chances the third-highest tally in Roma’s squad.
His performances have drawn praise from scouts, with Jacek Kulig calling him a “one-man army in midfield” after a standout display against Bayern Munich.
Although Reece James has filled in admirably in midfield, the England international remains a right-back by trade. Signing a natural central midfielder like Kone would give Chelsea greater balance and depth.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Chelsea are set to make their move, but they face fresh competition from Liverpool, who have also made contact over a potential deal.
Roma, however, hold a strong negotiating position, as Kone’s contract runs until 2029, meaning any transfer would likely require a significant offer.
With the race heating up, Chelsea must act decisively to secure the 25-year-old’s signature and strengthen their midfield for the second half of the season.
