Omari Kellyman of Chelsea, an attacking midfielder, has a hamstring issue. Though he has only made three appearances for Chelsea’s under-21 team, the 18-year-old has yet to make a senior debut for the team. With a six-year contract worth £19 million, the England youth international moved from Aston Villa to Chelsea this summer. He played in the Premier League International Cup last week for Chelsea’s under-21 team, scoring twice before receiving a red card in the 47th minute of the team’s 4-2 loss to RB Leipzig at home.

Derby County native Kellyman enrolled in the Villa academy in 2022, and in 2023 he made his debut for the first squad. He was used twice as a substitute in the Europa Conference League and made two appearances in the Premier League over the last two months of the previous season.

£19,000,000 Chelsea summer signing sidelined for two months

Following his international move from Northern Ireland in 2023, the adolescent has been capped by England at the underage level. This month marks the teen’s Under-20 debut for England. On September 14, Chelsea will play Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium after being held to a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

In the Carabao Cup, they will also host League Two Barrow. They will also play Gent and Panathinaikos to start their Conference League season. But with so many attacking options at his disposal—Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Joao Felix, to mention a few—Maresca won’t be very concerned by Kellyman’s absence.
