Manchester City considers alternatives as Chelsea pursues Wirtz
Chelsea Football Club is reportedly getting closer to acquiring talented midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. According to Spanish reports, SPORT reveals talks between the two clubs have picked up, indicating a big step toward a possible deal for the young German international.
This development follows Chelsea’s earlier successful signing of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, a trade that established the two teams’ close connection. Wirtz, considered as one of Germany’s finest prospects, has generated considerable interest, with Manchester City also expressing an interest in his services.
According to SPORT, Bayer Leverkusen could be looking for over €80 million for the 20-year-old playmaker. Wirtz has had an outstanding season, scoring five goals and eight assists in just 13 matches.

If Chelsea wins Wirtz’s signing, Manchester City may turn their attention to other options. Pep Guardiola, City’s manager, is said to be interested in Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, who plays in a similar No.10 role behind the striker.
In addition to the significant financial investment required, it seems unlikely that Guardiola will seek both Wirtz and Musiala at the same time.
