Chelsea have switched their attention from Kounde to Juventus star centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

Chelsea have reportedly plotted a plan to take Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt to make their defence more stable. Chelsea won the Champions League title this year based on their brilliance in defence. They are looking at Ligt as their top defensive target next summer.

The Blues recently signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan in the previous transfer window, but they still lacked a centre-back in the side. Thomas Tuchel is now making only wish to sign a centre-back next summer. Sevilla’s Jules Kounde was on the radar but the Blues didn’t meet the Frenchman’s £68 million release clause.

As per the reports of Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Chelsea have switched their attention from Kounde to Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

The 22-year-old defender joined Juventus from Ajax in the summer of 2019 and signed a five-year contract. The Dutch international made 80 appearances across all competitions for Serie A giants and scored six goals, He netted a winner in Juventus’ thrilling 3-2 victory over Spezia in the Serie A.

The Netherlands International has a €120 million release clause which will be activated from next summer. Chelsea kept four clean sheets so far in the new season and they have been a dominating side in Premier League under Tuchel. Their main players Rudiger, Christensen and Silva are out of contract at the end of the season so Chelsea need a suitable option. De Ligt is one of Europe’s best young defenders and he would be a big deal from the future perspective. Chelsea can make a buyout of €120 million release clause next summer.
