Chelsea look to hijack a deal with Atletico as situation favors the club from London

Purchasing a player whose team is unwilling to sell is the one thing you should never do in football. Once they have you committed, they can keep raising the price and if you don’t cough up the cash, they will always hang onto him.

The opposite is true when a club has openly said that they are willing to sell and has made it known what they need in a deal. If you choose to pay the charge, the information is almost public, and everything can happen very rapidly.

That direction appears to be taking the Joao Felix predicament. Gil Marin, the CEO of Atletico, recently acknowledged that the club was open to selling, and an £86 million price tag has since been placed on the Portuguese’s head.

Although it is not from Atletico, it is close enough to be reasonably believable.

It’s not cheap, and it’s not priced at a level where Chelsea could afford to take a chance. However, if they can secure around £40 million for Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic together, an additional £46 million for Felix will begin to seem enticingly low.
