Chelsea are preparing to capitalise on Manchester United’s hesitation and re-enter the race for Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, according to multiple reports.

The Blues find themselves in urgent need of a specialist left-back after Marc Cucurella’s departure to Real Madrid, and with the new season just weeks away, they are now accelerating their search.
Journalist Simon Phillips reports that Chelsea view Hall as a “dream target” and have been closely monitoring his situation at St James’ Park.
The 21-year-old spent over a decade in Chelsea’s academy system before moving to Newcastle, initially on loan in 2023 and then permanently in a deal worth £28 million plus add-ons.
Now, after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most promising full-backs, a return to Stamford Bridge is firmly on the cards.
Manchester United have also expressed strong interest in the England international, viewing him as the ideal long-term successor to the injury-prone Luke Shaw.
However, the Red Devils have yet to make a formal move, with their pursuit reportedly stalling as they prioritise other areas of the squad.
That lack of urgency has opened the door for Chelsea. Phillips notes that while Hall left the club on “fairly bad terms,” there is a belief that new manager Xabi Alonso can repair the relationship and convince the player to return by offering him a key starting role.
Hall’s stamina, dribbling ability, crossing and defensive reliability have made him a standout performer for Newcastle.
Valued at around £34 million on Transfermarkt, the Magpies are likely to demand a significantly higher fee for a player contracted until 2029.
The uncertainty at Newcastle following the departures of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, and manager Eddie Howe’s recent exit could further encourage Hall to seek a new challenge this summer.
With Manchester United yet to act decisively, Chelsea are now hovering, ready to seize their opportunity.
