According to reports, Chelsea is talking about acquiring an Argentina international from a Premier League competitor who has drawn interest for a variety of reasons.

For the first time since 2022–2023, the Blues have confirmed their participation in the Champions League. After finishing sixth the previous season and 12th the year before, they did, in fact, finish fourth in the Premier League.

According to Caught Offside sources, Chelsea is closely monitoring up-and-coming Argentinean star Valentin Barco as they look for ways to bolster their roster before the summer transfer window opens.

Barco has made a big impact in Ligue 1 this season, drawing interest from numerous elite European clubs, including the Blues. He is presently on loan at RC Strasbourg from Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion, where he has made 14 appearances this season.

The club’s recruitment team and new Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca have both expressed their respect for the 20-year-old’s mature displays and adaptability.

Chelsea keep tabs on Brighton man but transfer hurdle lies ahead

The Argentina international’s failure to win over Seagulls head coach Fabian Hurzeler was one of the reasons Barco moved from Brighton to Strasbourg, but it was more than just a loan deal.

According to The Athletic, the agreement called for Barco to be purchased for £8.47 million (€10 million, $11.3 million). And Strasbourg might be thrilled with this cheap buy option after starting 14 straight Ligue 1 games.

Chelsea and Strasbourg are both owned by BlueCo, though, and it appears that the Premier League team now has the upper hand in many aspects. Therefore, if Barco keeps up his good work with the French team, the Blues might want to hire him. Despite their stated desire to expand their midfield options, it is not going to happen this summer.

In addition, Chelsea has added Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, and former head coach Graham Potter to their roster, demonstrating their willingness to raid Brighton in recent years. Note that some have fared better than others.
