Chelsea are determined to act quickly after Cesc Fabregas’ departure from the Stamford Bridge got confirmed after the 2-1 FA Cup victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Italian midfielder, Nicolo Barella is at the very top of Maurizio Sarri’s wishlist and is reported to be worth £45m in the current market.

The 21-year-old plies his trade for Serie A outfit, Cagliari with a contract set to run till the end of the 2021/22 campaign. He is a regular starter in the Italian top-flight and has appeared in 20 games this season, scoring just once.

Barella likes to operate from the deep holding midfield role just like Fabregas did at Chelsea. He has represented Italy at almost every youth level and 4 times for the senior squad.

At 21, he is quickly turning into one of the most reliant young midfielders in Europe. Sarri is accustomed to Barella talents, having closely monitored the youngster while managing Napoli.

The Blues head coach has been vocal about his demands for a Fabregas replacement as he said, “If Cesc will go, I think that we need to buy another player, and it’s not easy because, technically, Cesc is a very important player.”

Fabregas might not have enjoyed time in the starting XI far too often this season but is considered as a key figure in the rotational midfield trio, making influential substitute appearances in the Premier League and leading the lineup in Europa League and Cup matches.
