Chelsea reportedly lining up a £60 million bid for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

The Bayern Munich defender is one of the more established players in Europe and would be a massive statement signing from Chelsea.

If the Blues are indeed interested in Alaba, it would mean that the club are seriously stepping into the January transfer market.

Alaba is a seasoned campaigner for Bayern Munich and Austria. Since making his debut for the Bavarians back in 2010, he has gone on to make over 250 appearances for them.

Despite playing as a left back, he is closing in 50 goals and assists for them. His accurate set-piece ability is an asset for any team.

He made his national team debut back in the age of 17 and has earned over 70 national caps.

At Chelsea, the Blues are short in quality at left back with both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri proving themselves inadequate to comply Lampard’s plans.

Alonso has shown that despite his technical foray, he is too slow for the Premier League and for Lampard’s system of football. As for Emerson Palmieri, the Brazilian is far too inconsistent and defensively unreliable.

Do you think Chelsea can end up with Alaba with a £60 million bid?
