Chelsea line up Bayern Munich star to bolster defence for new season

Chelsea have identified their next transfer target.

It is Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng. The Blues are in need of a defender to bolster their defence. Currently, after selling both David Luiz and letting Gary Cahill go prior to the starting off the new season, Lampard’s men were left widely inexperienced at the back.

Their captain Cesar Azpilicueta is an experienced campaigner but besides him and Antonio Rudiger, nobody else has played regularly for Chelsea for more than a season. The likes of Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen has gone in and out of the team and the other option in Fikayo Tomori is extremely young to be counted on regularly.

Lampard also prefers to play in a five man back system and hence might want to have extra pair of legs at the back to add depth to his squad. Jerome Boateng, at 31 years old is the perfect man to fill in that gap. He is an experienced campaigner who has won the FIFA World Cup 2014 edition in Brazil with Germany, he has won the Champions League and multiple Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich.

He is surplus to requirements in Bayern and Chelsea have now been drawn in the race for him with Arsenal. The Gunners are in dire need of a defender as well and it will be interesting to see who Boateng chooses.
