Pedro Neto emerged as Chelsea’s hero on Sunday evening, netting a dramatic stoppage-time winner to seal a 2-1 comeback victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage — a result that breathes new life into the Blues’ push for Champions League qualification.
Pedro Neto Fires Chelsea to Vital Win in Champions League Push
Chelsea, who had not tasted victory on the road in their last eight league outings, finally ended that barren run in thrilling fashion.
The win lifts them to fifth in the Premier League table with 57 points, level with Nottingham Forest, who face Tottenham on Monday.
The match started with a scare for Chelsea as Andreas Pereira found the net just three minutes in, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Fulham didn’t have to wait long, though — they took the lead in the 20th minute after Reece James’ error allowed Ryan Sessegnon to set up Alex Iwobi for a crisp finish into the bottom corner.
Chelsea, under pressure and chasing the game, looked flat in the first half. Manager Enzo Maresca reacted swiftly at the break, bringing on Jadon Sancho and Malo Gusto.
The substitutions proved pivotal. Sancho injected pace and energy down the left, while Gusto added threat from the right. Both forced Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno into action as Chelsea ramped up the intensity.
With time running out and Fulham poised to complete a rare league double over their London rivals, 18-year-old substitute Tyrique George stepped up in the 83rd minute, scoring his first Premier League goal with a clever finish to level the match.
That goal swung the momentum Chelsea’s way, and in the dying seconds, Neto delivered the killer blow.
Swiveling in the box, he unleashed a fierce drive that flew past Leno and sparked wild celebrations among the traveling supporters.
Speaking after the match, Neto said, “We showed character. It’s not easy being outside the top four, but we never stopped believing. Now we focus on Everton — we have to keep pushing.”
With renewed confidence and momentum on their side, Chelsea’s Champions League dream is very much alive.
