Chelsea has the green light to finalise Riccardo Califiori’s left-back deal. Continuing his quick rise to popularity, Italy and Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori has already stated that playing in the Premier League, and especially at Chelsea, is his desire. It happens the same weekend that the youthful centre back helped the Azzurri squad win during the opening weekend of Euro 2024.
Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella’s long-term futures at Stamford Bridge remain uncertain, and Ian Maatsen is expected to leave for a reported £35 million amid ongoing negotiations with Borussia Dortmund. As a result, Chelsea is actively looking for new options, and Enzo Maresca has made left-back a priority position to bolster this summer.
Enzo Maresca sends Chelsea scouts to watch Riccardo Calafiori at Euro 2024 game
Prior to a possible move, Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori was reportedly seen by scouts during Euro 2024 by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca. Football Transfers claims that Calafiori is one of the players the Blues are reportedly keeping an eye on. The Italian international is said to have been observed closely by the club’s scouts at the Euros.
Calafiori mentioned Chelsea as a team he admires and stated that he would like to play in the Premier League. He stated his goals for 2022, adding, “I have two images: maybe going back to Rome, or maybe going back to Italy. Playing in the Premier League would be my ideal scenario. My favourites are Chelsea or West Ham.”
