According to reports, Chelsea has discussed a move to Bayern Munich with Kim Min-jae’s agency, as the South Korean has opened the door to leaving the team in the summer. In 2023, Kim moved from Napoli to Bayern. After winning the Serie A championship, he was in high demand and was signed by the Bundesliga’s biggest clubs.
The center back may have thought that Bayern, the Bundesliga’s defending champions, would have won a second championship in as many years, but Bayer Leverkusen defeated them.
Foot Mercato claims that the Korean has opened the door to a summer exit just two years after joining Bayern, so even though he appears to win the German title in his second season, that may be his only trophy with the team.
According to reports, his agent has discussed a possible transfer with Chelsea and Newcastle. An unidentified Serie A club is reportedly also involved. It has been stated that Kim sees the Premier League “as one of his top choices” and would prefer to move to a different league rather than remain in Germany.
Chelsea in talks to sign €50m Bayern Munich monster
Kim publicly acknowledged that his confidence had taken a serious hit after being fired by Thomas Tuchel last season, and despite being a regular under Vincent Kompany, it appears that he hasn’t fully recovered.
Due to Bayern’s lack of defensive options, Kim has had to play with a minor injury in recent weeks, but he has made an unusual number of individual mistakes since joining the team.
However, Sky Germany’s announcement earlier this week that the center-back is far from untouchable this summer is hardly shocking. Although they are not actively seeking a buyer, Bayern will entertain proposals for the 28-year-old.
According to Footmercato, the player’s representatives are currently in talks with Chelsea and Newcastle, and the first inquiries have already been received.
Despite his age, a move to Chelsea would be surprising, but Kim is reportedly very open to a new challenge outside of Germany. The Blues haven’t been pursuing athletes like him in recent years.
