Chelsea Hold Talks With Free Agent Malang Sarr

Chelsea have made contact with highly-rated free agent defender, Malang Sarr.

According to Sky Sports presenter, Kaver Solhekol, Chelsea are interested in signing him but not to introduce him into the first team, but to send him out on loan after.

Speaking of the possible signing, Solhekol tweeted, “Chelsea in talks to sign France U21 centre back Malang Sarr. He’s a free agent after his Nice contract ran out this summer. If Chelsea sign him they will send him out on loan.”

Chelsea’s extravagant spendings on other positions have left them with very little to invest on the centre-back spot. The likes of Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell is likely to cost upwards of £120 million while £80 million have already been shelled out for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

That is centrally why the Blues are going after free agents like Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr. The latter has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs after seeing out his contract with OGC Nice. Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham were interested but none finalized a deal for him.

This gives Chelsea a grand opportunity of signing him out without much competition right now. Sarr is still young at 21 years of age and relatively promising. He impressed with Nice last season and made 19 appearances this term. Would he be an immediate improvement on the current Chelsea backline? No. Would he be a good investment for the future? Maybe.
