According to reports, Gianluigi Donnarumma, a 26-year-old Italian international, is a target for Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
French writer Sebastien Vidal has reported that Gianluigi Donnarumma is a target for both Manchester United and Chelsea. In the summer transfer window, the two Premier League heavyweights are eager to add a goalie to their first-team roster. Thus, the 26-year-old goalie for Paris Saint-Germain has been their objective.
During the summer transfer window, Chelsea and Manchester United have made queries about potential moves. The former AC Milan sensation is expected to leave Parc des Princes in the upcoming weeks since Lucas Chevalier has been appointed PSG’s new first-choice goalkeeper. Therefore, this summer, both Premier League powerhouses are “looking to take advantage of his situation for a reasonable deal.”
Over the last ten years, Gianluigi Donnarumma has emerged as one of the world’s most successful goalkeepers. When the 26-year-old made his debut in the first team at AC Milan as a young kid, he attracted attention and was compared to his namesake and hero, Gianluigi Buffon. Before leaving as a free agent in July 2021 to join PSG in a Bosman deal, he had a successful time with the Rossoneri.
Chelsea in Gianluigi Donnarumma transfer talks as PSG exit looms
Donnarumma is no longer at the top of PSG’s hierarchy after Lille signed Lucas Chevalier. AS reports that he has also been told by boss Luis Enrique that he would no longer be the custodian of choice. In the meantime, Chelsea and United, two of the biggest teams in the Premier League, have asked about the Italian’s condition. Due to his unwillingness to sign an extension, Donnarumma, who has one year left on his contract, is expected to be sold this summer.
Robert Sanchez has been erratic for Chelsea since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge. Enzo Maresca could use a top-tier goalie, even if the Blues have a stacked unit. Donnarumma is therefore a viable possibility, and Chelsea is also making an attempt to sign him.
A summer transfer to the Premier League may be imminent, as PSG is prepared to pay for Donnarumma. The 26-year-old Italian international has lost his position to Lucas Chevalier, and Chelsea and Manchester United are “looking to take advantage of his situation for a reasonable deal” this summer.
