Chelsea has been given the opportunity to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for £45 million. To allay concerns about failing the Premier League’s PSR test, Villa has accepted that they will have to cash in on the World Cup-winning Argentine. They also know that the Blues are looking to add a new number one.

The 32-year-old former Arsenal goalie has been linked to a summer transfer to Manchester United, and in South America, it is thought that he would like to move to Old Trafford.

However, unless the Reds find a team prepared to pay £35 million for Andre Onana, United manager Ruben Amorim will not be able to purchase a new number one this summer due to other commitments.

And since Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen both underwent disappointing performances under manager Enzo Maresca, that has allowed Chelsea to increase their bid. At Stamford Bridge, assistant manager Willy Caballero is a tremendous admirer of Martinez.

Martinez is a world-class goalkeeper, and Caballero thinks he can help Chelsea advance after Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen failed to impress Maresca. Martinez may be had for £45 million, which is equivalent to €53 million or $62 million. Chelsea will need to launch a major charm attack to keep him from moving to Old Trafford, as the Mirror adds that he now prefers a move to United.

Martinez reportedly offered himself to United on June 19, which has been referred to as a golden opportunity for Amorim. In order to provide United the money and squad space they need to pursue Martinez, the Saudis might assist United by paying about £35 million (€41 million or $48 million) for Onana.

Martinez is United’s preferred choice to succeed Onana, sources told TEAMtalk on Wednesday. The Red Devils will try to sign a Ligue 1 keeper, who is also desired by Villa, if they are unable to acquire him.
