Anfield after the Merseyside giants’ contract discussions broke down. Although sources have established that Konate is still on his way out, the firing of Arne Slot had fuelled rumors that he would end up remaining.

Chelsea ‘make shock move for Ibrahima Konate

The defender claimed last month that there was a “big chance” he would stay at Liverpool beyond the summer. He said: “There are many things people have said but for a long time we have spoken with the club and we are close to an agreement.

“For sure, there is a big chance I’m here next season. This is what I’ve always wanted.”

But he is now set for a move elsewhere – potentially to a rival.
