The British media announced on Saturday that Chelsea had signed English winger Jadon Sancho from Manchester United on a season-long loan. On the last day of the transfer window, Sancho signed a contract with Chelsea after the 11 p.m. deadline had passed and a deal sheet had been presented to the Premier League. Chelsea is required to make the relocation permanent for a cost of 20–25 million pounds ($59.1 million), according to the BBC.
After a public fallout with manager Erik ten Hag in the previous season, Sancho signed a five-year contract to join United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. However, he returned to Dortmund on loan in January of this year, staying there until the end of the season.
Chelsea agrees stunning deal to sign Jadon Sancho on deadline day
Earlier in the month, Sancho who had a difficult and disappointing time at Old Trafford, became a surprise target for Chelsea. During his three-year tenure at Manchester United, the former England international flattered to deceive despite completing a £73 million deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. Last season, Sancho was loaned back to Dortmund after a lacklustre two and a half years at the Theatre of Dreams, with the expectation that he would eventually make a permanent return.
The two Premier League heavyweights only needed to finalize a contract for Sancho to join Chelsea on personal terms, according to reports that surfaced on Friday afternoon. Chelsea made two bids to Manchester United in an attempt to fulfil the desire of both sides, who were eager for that to occur. In the first, Sancho would be hired on a loan with a buyout option; in the second, there would be a purchase requirement.
