Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling rejects big offer from Saudi Pro League

Chelsea sent Aston Villa an offer for Raheem Sterling after it became clear that Enzo Maresca does not want the England winger at Stamford Bridge. The £47.5 million acquisition, one of 15 Blues players up for sale, is away from the first team to train. Sterling wants to stay in the Premier League and has accepted the offer from Unai Emery’s club, so moving to Saudi Arabia is not an option. In order to compete in the Champions League, Sterling hopes to regain his place for England.

Federico Chiesa was being considered by Juventus in a player trade that Chelsea would not be interested in. Sterling stated that he wanted to know exactly where he stood after being left out of the starting lineup for the Premier League matchup with Manchester City. Even though he is the highest paid player at Chelsea, at £300,000 a week as opposed to the £60,000 average of newer, incentive-laden contracts, Chelsea faces financial pressure to sell in order to preserve financial stability.

Chelsea ace is prepared to take the pay cut

Aston Villa is keeping an eye on Raheem Sterling, and Ben Jacobs says the player would accept a pay reduction if the proper project was offered to him. In 2022, Sterling signed a £50 million contract to join Chelsea from Manchester City. He was considered a marquee acquisition during the first transfer window under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership.

It’s no secret that Chelsea is willing to let Sterling go in order to free up his expensive contract, which pays over £300,000. He said, in an interview with the London Is Blue podcast:

Sterling is willing to accept a pay reduction if a suitable project is offered to him. I’m informed that Juventus hasn’t made a direct approach to the Sterling camp yet. It’s surprising that Aston Villa is keeping an eye on the matter as well.
