Aaron Anselmino is anticipated to leave for the French team, while Chelsea is in negotiations to bring back Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg. The two 20-year-old central defenders are expected to be traded between teams owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, together known as BlueCo.

It comes during a complex finale to Chelsea’s winter transfer window, with the club also in negotiations over a hefty deal to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet. The 20-year-old Jacquet may join soon or in the summer, but Rennes want to avoid losing him in the midst of the season. Liverpool is interested in signing him, while Chelsea wants to sign him.

Anselmino was recorded crying as he bid farewell to teammates in Germany after being brought back from his loan at Borussia Dortmund last week. Dortmund were reportedly “incensed” and taken aback by Chelsea’s decision, which was reportedly announced three hours before the expiration of a provision allowing a recall.

Mamadou Sarr flying into London to finalise deadline day deal

Sarr made his debut against ES Tunis in the Club World Cup after joining Chelsea from Strasbourg in a £12 million transfer last June. This season, he was moved back on loan to the Ligue 1 team, where he continued to train under Liam Rosenior.

It was anticipated that the 20-year-old will formally join Chelsea in the summer before being incorporated into the starting lineup for the 2026–2027 campaign. But now that Rosenior is at Chelsea and eager to increase his defensive options, Sarr will join the Blues six months ahead of schedule.

Last weekend, AFCON winner Sarr of Senegal returned to Strasbourg and led his club to a 4-1 victory over Lille. Speaking about his future in December, Sarr stated that while he was concentrating on supporting Strasbourg this season, he intended to play for Chelsea the next season. “I want to play for Chelsea next season, without a doubt,” he declared. “I want to have a successful season with Strasbourg before joining the Chelsea group in June.”
