Chelsea Hands This Midfielder The Number 10 Shirt

Eden Hazard left his jersey number behind when he left for Real Madrid on a record transfer this month.

The Belgian took over the number ten jersey three seasons back and ever since his departure, it has not been revealed who will wear from the upcoming season.

Plenty thought that it would be Chelsea’s possible Hazard replacement, Christian Pulisic who will inherit the jersey but it is going to go to Willian. One of the club’s longest-serving players, the Brazilian revealed on international duty that he was offered the number prior to the 2018/19 season.

“I was offered the number 10 jersey ahead of next season and I will take it,” he told Brazilian TV show Desimpedidos.

This is a huge sigh of relief as it obliterates all rumours of him possibly leaving for Barcelona this summer. Willian still has only 12 more months left on his contract and is waiting out to receive a two-year extension like his compatriot, David Luiz.

The Blues are due to face Barcelona tonight. Frank Lampard and his men will be looking to bounce back from the 1-0 loss against Kawasaki Frontale last weekend.
