Chelsea going to struggle to get their money back for Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku’s second spell at the Nerazzurri has not really worked out so far.

According to transfer reporter Dean Jones, Chelsea are going to struggle to get their money back for Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgium forward is currently on loan at Inter Milan and is having a difficult time there because of injury.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT that Graham Potter wanted to talk to Lukaku about potentially staying at Stamford Bridge next season.

The 29-year-old joined his former Serie A club on loan during the summer after a disastrous 2021/22 campaign under Thomas Tuchel.

Much was expected of Lukaku when he initially left Inter for Chelsea in a deal worth £97.5m, according to BBC Sport. In the end, though, things did not go to plan. Lukaku was only able to score eight league goals for Chelsea last season.

His second spell at the Nerazzurri has not really worked out so far either, with injury resulting in him making just four Serie A appearances this season.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “Lukaku cost almost £100m, so it’s pretty clear that Chelsea are going to struggle to get that back given his current status. But Lukaku is hugely driven to bounce back from this bad moment in his career.”

Lukaku was unable to offer much to Belgium in Qatar, though that was largely because he is still returning to full fitness. Chelsea definitely are going to find it impossible to get their money back for him.
