According to the latest reports, Chelsea are looking to add more strength to their defence through West Ham United’s Declan Rice.
Frank Lampard has overseen one of the most ruthless transfer windows in Chelsea’s history after being denied of one last season.
Five players have come and the sixth is expected to follow in Kai Havertz. Now, it is time to go after another one of their priority targets, youngster, Declan Rice. The England international was a former member of the Blues academy and has come good on the other end of London.
He is one of the most promising young talents in the Premier League, racking up 109 appearances for West Ham already at the age of 21. The Hammers value him at £80 million but Chelsea’s first offer fell short by £15 million. Everyone knows of Chelsea’s spending pedigree and how far they are willing to go to sign their targets.
Just two years back, Chelsea paid Kepa Arrizibalaga’s £72 million release clause right after losing Thibaut Courtois. Now, they have exceeded transfers of £130 million with Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell. Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva came in for free while Kai Havertz is due to cost upwards of £90-100 million alone.
With Rice, Chelsea will cross the £300 million mark, which will smash the record of a single-window spending, currently held by Real Madrid at £272.6m in 2019.
