Djordje Petrovic, the goalkeeper for Chelsea, is set to travel on a season-long loan to Strasbourg, weather permitting. The twenty-four-year-old, who played 31 first-team games in all competitions the previous season, joins Chelsea from the New England Revolution in August 2023. Along with Robert Sanchez, who has been chosen as Enzo Maresca’s first choice in the Premier League games this season, Petrovic is one of Chelsea’s six starting goalkeepers. Kepa Arrizabalaga, on the other hand, has joined Bournemouth on loan.
Before leaving Stamford Bridge for Strasbourg, the team controlled by Todd Boehly and BlueCo, the parent business of Clearlake Capital, Petrovic also inked a new deal there with better terms. Petrovic joined the Blues for £14 million last summer after being recruited by the New England Revolution, and the team feels that this move will help him grow long-term.
Chelsea announced second goalkeeper exit
Fabrizio Romano reports that the Serbian international is now expected to complete a loan agreement with Strasbourg. The French team, which is also controlled by the BlueCo led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, has already brought in Caleb Wiley and Andrey Santos this summer on loan from the West Londoners. Currently serving as the manager of Strasbourg is Liam Rosenior, a former defender for Hull and Fulham.
According to their agreement, Petrovic will be on loan for a year, returning to Chelsea in 2025. Following Kepa Arrizabalaga’s transfer to Bournemouth, he will be the second goalkeeper to depart Chelsea on loan this week. After learning that they are free to leave Chelsea, Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling are considering their options before Friday’s 11 p.m. (BST) deadline for transfers.
