Chelsea Cleared to Sign Victor Osimhen as PSG Withdraws from Race
Chelsea has received a significant boost in their pursuit of Napoli’s star striker Victor Osimhen, with reports suggesting that the Blues have been given the green light to finalize the deal.
The development comes as Paris Saint-Germain, a formidable competitor in the transfer market, has reportedly backed out of the race, leaving Chelsea with a clearer path to secure Osimhen’s signature.
Osimhen, who has been on Chelsea’s radar for several months, is seen as the solution to their goal-scoring woes. The 25-year-old Nigerian forward has attracted attention from top European clubs, but his hefty price tag has been a stumbling block for many.
Napoli initially demanded over £100 million for their prolific striker, but sources indicate that the Italian club has now lowered their asking price to £85.2 million.
Chelsea’s need for a reliable finisher became glaringly evident after their recent 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League.
Despite creating multiple scoring opportunities, the Blues lacked the clinical edge that a player like Osimhen could provide. His potential arrival at Stamford Bridge would not only address this issue but also signal Chelsea’s intent to compete at the highest level this season.
Negotiations between Chelsea and Napoli are reportedly in the advanced stages, with Romelu Lukaku potentially being used as a makeweight in the deal.
Lukaku, who has struggled to find his footing at Chelsea, is said to be keen on reuniting with former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte, now at the helm of Napoli.
This could pave the way for a mutually beneficial arrangement, with both clubs getting what they need before the transfer window closes.
Osimhen’s preference to remain in Europe, coupled with PSG’s decision to focus on Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani, has positioned Chelsea as the frontrunners for his signature.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, the Blues are eager to wrap up the deal and bring the Nigerian forward to Stamford Bridge, where his goal-scoring prowess could make all the difference.
