Robin Gosens is attracting attention from the Premier League and it is meant to catch headlines.
Leicester City are on the 25-year-old’s tracks as a potential replacement for Ben Chilwell. Chelsea are the best suitors for the latter but need to set up alternative options as well.
Gosens have done remarkably well to help Atalanta reach the Champions League quarter-finals this season. His 8 goals and 5 assists shows just how good he can be down the left flank. Mainly deployed as a winger, Gosens was primarily a left-back but with adept attacking tendencies.
The problem is he replicates the profiles of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri far too much to warrant an immediate transfer. Coming from Italy as an attacking wingback, he would bring something similar to what the two already provide at Stamford Bridge but possibly with better talent.
Gosens is on the brink of a callup to the German national side after impressing Joachim Low. His stock could also rise significantly if he gets to represent Die Mannschaft in the near future. Chelsea are favourites to sign Ben Chilwell but the Englishman is bound to come with a hefty price tag. Gosens is simply a backup option that they might look to follow through if all else fails.
