Chelsea face major setback in pursuit of Barcelona sensation Gavi

Barcelona are said to be in the final stages of contract negotiations with Gavi, who has previously been linked with Chelsea.

This season, the 17-year-old La Masia product has risen in size, demonstrating his ability on multiple occasions. The adolescent midfielder has already represented Spain at the international level and might be regarded as a potential world-beater if he continues on this path.

Gavi has already played 28 games for the Blauranga in all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting three times. Given his recent brilliance for both club and country, the young star would have piqued the interest of prominent teams around Europe.

With players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley struggling to make an impression at Chelsea, the club may be seeking to add a dynamic central midfielder to their ranks. While Mateo Kovacic has shown to be a reliable alternative in a comparable position, the club would be keen to acquire a competent substitute in their ranks if the Croatian is unavailable due to injury or any other reason.

It’s tough to imagine him going directly into the first-team system at Stamford Bridge, where he’d most likely be part of the development squad or given a few minutes here and there to assist him advance in the club.
