Chelsea Eyeing Up Move For £50m Lewis Dunk

Chelsea have been surprisingly linked with Brighton And Hove Albion defender, Lewis Dunk.

It has already been established that the Blues are after a £50m defender this January.

Many news outlets linked them to the likes of Caglar Soyuncu, Issa Diop or Ben Godfrey. Dunk fits into the same price bracket due to the “Harry Maguire effect”. Ever since Manchester United paid the exhorbitant sum they did to price Maguire out of Leicester City, almost all English players are being valued at a higer sum in the Premier League.

Dunk definitely has earned his plaudits. The captain of his boyhood side, the 28-year-old has proved his mettel in the top-flight. He is strong at the back, hard-tackling and has the ability to play out from the back. Graham Potter will definitely need his presence to fight off relegation this season.

That makes it even more difficult to sign Dunk away from the Seagulls. However, it is also queer to see why Chelsea would be keen on signing a defender and that too one, who is nearing his later years.

Frank Lampard already has Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen to fit into the centre-back role. He has also established that Chelsea are pro towards the signing of young talents, who can be developed into this new style of football at Stamford Bridge. Also, the priority for them would be to sign a backup striker for Tammy Abraham right now and not add strength to an already strong position.
