One of Chelsea’s top summer goals is to recruit a new striker, and rumors have it that Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa is at the top of their shortlist. Nicolas Jackson may not be prolific enough to propel the Blues back to the top of the Premier League, but Enzo Maresca wants a more seasoned front man to challenge him.

Maresca wants Villa’s Watkins to be the man leading the line at Stamford Bridge this season, according to a report from The Standard. Unai Emery’s team finished fourth in the Premier League last season thanks to the England international’s extremely outstanding 27 goals across all competitions. Although Watkins is under contract with Villa until 2028, Arsenal has also expressed interest in him.

Ollie Watkins exchange agreement

Aston Villa will get a bid from Chelsea for Ollie Watkins that includes Conor Gallagher and cash. According to Football Insider, the Blues are “willing to push the boat out” to sign the England striker. Gallagher is reportedly being considered by Villa, but the player is reportedly not eager to join them.

The West Midlands club is targeting Watkins as their second striker this summer. Their initial attempt to sign Jhon Duran was unsuccessful, and negotiations have since ceased. Afterwards, they sold Ian Maatsen to Villa and signed Omari Kellyman. With Conor Gallagher potentially being traded this summer, a deal involving him would be much better.
