Chelsea have reportedly approached Manchester City regarding the potential signing of versatile youngster Rico Lewis this summer.

Rico Lewis Emerges as Chelsea Target in Summer Transfer Window

According to reports, the Blues have enquired about the 20-year-old’s availability during discussions with City, but Pep Guardiola remains keen to keep hold of the highly rated talent.

In recent years, Chelsea and City have done significant business together, with the likes of Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling heading to Stamford Bridge and Mateo Kovacic making the switch in the opposite direction.

The West London club also has a growing ex-City contingent, including head coach Enzo Maresca, formerly Guardiola’s assistant, and players like Romeo Lavia, Liam Delap, and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Lewis, capable of operating at right-back or in central midfield, has attracted interest from several Premier League sides, including Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United.

However, Chelsea are believed to have made the most direct move so far.

Despite this, City view Lewis as one of England’s brightest young players and have already opened talks with his representatives over a new long-term contract.

His current deal runs until June 2028, with wages reportedly around £25,000 per week. Director of football Hugo Viana is expected to table an improved offer that includes a substantial pay rise to deter potential suitors.

Guardiola is said to “love” Lewis’ ability to thrive in tight spaces and adapt to different roles, making him a key part of City’s plans.

Given his roots in the club’s academy and his ambition to cement a place in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, a summer exit appears unlikely.

While Chelsea’s interest signals their intent to strengthen, City seem determined to keep Lewis at the Etihad and avoid strengthening a direct rival.
