Chelsea are intensifying their pursuit of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, with the Serie A club reportedly setting a €30 million (£25 million) asking price for the French international.

Maignan, 29, has just one year remaining on his contract at San Siro and has yet to agree to an extension, making him a prime target for the Blues.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are in active discussions with Milan, and there’s a strong possibility the deal could materialize soon.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is keen to bring in a goalkeeper adept at playing out from the back, aligning with his possession-based philosophy. Maignan’s distribution skills make him an ideal candidate for this role.

Despite already having five senior goalkeepers on their roster, including Robert Sánchez and Filip Jørgensen, Chelsea are looking to bolster their options between the sticks.

Maignan’s arrival would likely prompt a reshuffling, with Sánchez’s future at the club now uncertain.

Maignan has been a standout performer since joining Milan from Lille in 2021, making over 160 appearances and playing a pivotal role in their 2021–22 Serie A title win.

He also featured in the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament, underscoring his credentials at the highest level.

With Milan failing to qualify for European competition next season, they may be more inclined to sell Maignan now rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Chelsea are reportedly preparing an initial offer of €25 million, slightly below Milan’s valuation, but negotiations are ongoing.

As Chelsea gear up for the upcoming Club World Cup, Maresca is eager to have Maignan integrated into the squad promptly.

Securing the Frenchman’s signature would not only address a key position but also signal Chelsea’s intent to compete at the highest levels in the forthcoming season.
