According to the Guardian, Chelsea has started discussions with Atletico Madrid about the prospect of signing Samu Omorodion in order to replace Jhon Duran of Aston Villa. Omorodion, 20, made 35 appearances while on loan at Alaves, tallying nine goals. Though he will likely cost more than £30 million, he would still be more expensive than Duran for Chelsea.
Atletico Madrid has rejected Chelsea’s offer of €32.5 million (£27.4 million) plus add-ons for striker Samu Omorodion. The 20-year-old, who played on loan at Deportivo Alaves the previous season, came to Atletico from Granada in the summer of 2023. The London club is targeting him along with a few other strikers.
Chelsea sees opening bid rejected for Omorodion
Prior to the start of the 2024 preseason, Chelsea is putting forth effort to acquire a new striker. The Blues’ initial attempt to recruit Atletico Madrid attacker Samu Omorodion was turned down, according to Fabrizio Romano. Chelsea submitted a bid that was approximately €30 million, including potential add-ons. However, the La Liga team quickly rejected it.
Omorodion remains a top target for the Blues in their summer transfer window, and they are actively pursuing him. Nonetheless, his contract contains a €80 million release clause. Chelsea may be interested in the teenage striker, but Diego Simeone’s team seems to have other ideas for him and won’t allow him go this summer.
