The Glazers and Chelsea director Jonathan Goldstein are two of the potential bidders interested in one of the eight teams in the Hundred. The teams were valued at more than £650 million after the first round of bidding ended on Friday, according to the description. The tender process is still ongoing, and some of the names in the frame are well-known.
Some investors even expressed interest in buying more than one franchise, according to The Telegraph, which reports that over 100 bids were made for the eight teams. Goldstein and the Glazers are two of the most well-known bidders; they still own a significant portion of Manchester United. Among them are the Ambanis, the wealthiest family in India.
Chelsea Chief Teams Up with Glazer Family
The Indian billionaire Sanjiv Goenka made the biggest bid, submitting a £140 million offer for London Spirit. Additionally, an offer of about £120 million was made for Oval Invincibles. Although Goldstein’s preferred team is unknown, it has been reported that the Chelsea director has expressed interest through the Raine Group. Chelsea would not be connected to any possible offer.
According to the report,’several members’ of the Glazer family are interested. Not one of them is Joel Glazer. Through the Raine Group, the Glazers sold a minority ownership in Manchester United to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the head of Ineos, last year. Goldstein’s involvement coincides with a boardroom conflict that has Chelsea’s future in jeopardy, as Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, co-founders of Clearlake Capital, are attempting to buy each other out.
