Chelsea Defender Injury Not Too 'Serious'

Emerson Palmieri has provided an update on his injury that he picked up against Finland on Sunday.

The fullback limped off the pitch during the early stages of the game, causing immediate concern among the Chelsea fans.

Frank Lampard has utilised Emerson in each of the competitive games Chelsea have played so far as Marcos Alonso continues to be a second-string option. With the ongoing transfer ban, Chelsea will be unable to sign any replacements in the January window either.

To everyone’s relief, Emerson wrote on Twitter, “Very important victory today guys. Unfortunately, I had a small injury, but nothing serious. Let’s continue like this!”

Roberto Mancini brought on Alessandro Florenzi in the Chelsea defender’s place and later confirmed the move was largely for precautionary reasons. “It’s nothing serious,” the Azzurri boss said. “He came off to avoid making it any worse.”

Chelsea fans will also be pleased to hear that Jorginho got on the scoring sheet. His goal helped Italy to a 2-1 win and getting them to the top of their qualifying group. Italy are set to face up against Greece on Thursday.

Chelsea are back in action next Saturday against Wolves.
