Marc Guehi - Players Chelsea Could Sign

Marc Guehi, a defender for Crystal Palace and England, is apparently being courted by Chelsea to return to Stamford Bridge three and a half years after he left. Wesley Fofana, who Enzo Maresca confirmed could miss the remainder of the season due to a major hamstring injury, is being replaced by someone else at the West London club. Prior to purchasing a £18 million contract with Palace in the summer of 2021, the 24-year-old began his career at Chelsea’s Cobham academy. Guehi is still under contract with Selhurst Park for another 18 months. Recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his Palace loan is another option Chelsea is considering.

The Mail also notes that as the defender’s contract is coming to an end, Palace’s “grip” over him has loosened since the summer. Guehi was reportedly valued at £70 million by Palace last summer, but Chelsea might use Trevoh Chalobah, who is currently on loan from Palace, as leverage in any possible deal with Guehi. Guehi joined Palace for £18 million in July 2021 after spending 14 years at Chelsea.

Chelsea interested in re-signing Guehi from Palace

Those close to Fofana, however, maintain that they anticipate seeing him play again in a considerably shorter amount of time. Additionally, Benoit Badiashile will not be available until at least February. Before moving to Palace, Guehi spent a season and a half on loan at Swansea in the Championship. He made just two senior games for Chelsea, both in the EFL Cup in 2019. He has since made 22 appearances for England.

Guehi was the target of four summer bids from Newcastle, the last of which was valued at up to £65 million. There have also been rumors that Chelsea may call up Trevoh Chalobah, an external player from Palace’s loan period, and that Boca Juniors has called up Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino.
