Chelsea could sign defender Jules Kounde for below current €120m

Chelsea are going to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla this summer, that looks certain

However, because the Blues will lose two starting central defenders, two of whom are in their late 30s, a second buy will almost probably be required.

Today’s effort has a look at the players Chelsea have to sale, and hopes that the club could raise £173m by selling them.

That’s not a totally unrealistic figure if you add up the potential fees for each of them, but the reality is that you can never sell all the players you want at the same time.

Matthijs de Ligt appears to be at the top of the list. The 22-year-old is a fantastic player with Champions League experience. But, as things are, he’ll be too pricey.

However, according to reports, there may be a snag in the deal: the Dutch international will sign a new contract with Juventus, with a lesser release clause than the current €120 million charge.

That would be a nice balance for the club, as it would prevent their star player from approaching the end of his current contract while still giving de Ligt the feeling of having a decent get-out clause.
