Chelsea may now be able to secure a significant reduction on a target they have identified at Stamford Bridge, and they will be in the market come January to increase their bid for cutlery.
The Blues have been dealing with a lot of injury news lately, and last weekend’s match against Liverpool—which Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana, and Levi Colwill missed because of various injuries—highlighted their lack of depth in central defence.
Despite having to be substituted off after taking a knock during play, Josh Acheampong ended up beginning in the crucial victory over the Reds. The Blues will also benefit from Trevoh Chalobah’s return from suspension.
Chelsea’s top goal in January is to sign a defender, and Colwill’s ACL tear has only made that more necessary. CaughtOffside claims that Chelsea may be able to get a significant discount on Castello Lukeba, a defender for RB Leipzig with a release clause of somewhat more than £78 million.
RB Leipzig ready to accept €60m bid for Chelsea target
The Blues may decide to try to buy a centre-back if, by the time the January transfer window arrives, nothing appears to be changing. Castello Lukeba, a French international who plays for RB Leipzig, is one of the players Chelsea has reportedly expressed interest in.
It’s also thought that teams like Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in the centre-back. Lukeba can depart RB Leipzig for less than his €90 million release clause, according to CaughtOffside. The German side is willing to take around €60 million.
The left-sided Lukeba has already won 26 duels this season and successfully carried the ball out six times, demonstrating his fit with Enzo Maresca’s fast-paced style of play. Of course, in recent years, Chelsea has had a number of French international centre backs. Generally speaking, it hasn’t worked out.
Despite their talent, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are far too prone to injuries to be trusted. Enzo Maresca, on the other hand, has no intentions for Axel Disasi, who is training apart from the team and is anticipated to go in January.
